Eva Selhub, MD

Eva M. Selhub, M.D., is a Clinical Associate of the Benson Henry Institute for Mind/Body Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. A Comprehensive Medicine Specialist, she has a private practice in Newton, Massachusetts, and she is also a clinical instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Selhub has lectured throughout the United States and Europe and has trained healthcare professionals from all over the world. Dr. Selhub also works as an executive coach, helping professionals from all over the globe to optimize leadership skills and achieve even greater success. Some of her corporate clients include Standard Chartered Bank and Cathay Pacific Airways.

She is the author of The Love Response (Ballantine 2009) and she has been published in medical journals and featured in national publications including The New York Times, USA Today, Self, Shape, Fitness, and Journal of Woman’s Health, and has appeared on radio and television in connection with her work. She has recently collaborated with Steven Halpern on two audio CD’s, Breast Health and Meditations on Life, Love and Flow. She also has four audio CD’s, Relax in to Love, Finding Stillness, Living in the Love Response and Experience the Love Response.

In the course of her clinical practice and teaching career, she has found that a key factor for health is Love. Love sets off a set of physiological events in the body that help you to adapt to life's challenges, to stop and reverse disease, to maintain health, and to make it easier for your body to improve rather than deteriorate with age. She calls her prescription for love, The Love Response®.

In her lectures and workshops, Dr. Selhub explains the hard science behind the physical benefits of deliberately shifting into a place of love and proactively creating the bonds we need to do so – with others, with ourselves, with the divine. She demonstrates that love in the form of affection, self-nurturance and altruistic works improves health on every level. She then instructs participants in a set of simple practices that allows them to find – in mere moments – an inner stillness, enabling the neurobiology of love to bring the body and mind into a state of flow and resilience, the hallmarks of health.

Dr. Selhub bases her approach on what she terms the “Love Response®” - the chain of bio-chemical processes that occur in the body when a person operates from love – and its complement, the “Stress Response” – the chain of bio-chemical processes that occur when a person operates from fear. The two are meant to co-exist in a fine balancing act. When they do, the stress system remains regulated, resulting in health and well-being. However, when the Fear Response dominates too often and for too long, the stress system runs amok, resulting in a physical make up conducive to illness and disease.

Dr. Selhub integrates Western medical science and Eastern healing methods, to provide powerful insights that are straightforward, down to earth and easy to understand.

Dr. Selhub teaches individuals how to change the body’s physiology quickly and lastingly through the deliberate evocation of a series of biochemical reactions in the body that lower blood pressure, pulse, respiration and adrenaline levels, counteract the unhealthy effects of fear and stress and lead to multiple benefits including better health, improved problem solving, clearer thinking and emotional balance.

Living in the Love Response ® (Workshop)

Dr. Eva Selhub knows one unequivocal truth about human health: Just because a disease enters the body does not mean its symptoms will manifest.

Love in all its forms is more than emotions or feel-good gestures according to Dr. Selhub. Love, and the affection that flows from it, regulates the body’s stress system – the circuit of peptides, hormones, and pathways between the mind and body that keeps us wound up tight or calm and centered. This miraculous system manages all of the body’s other systems such as the immune, nerve, muscular-skeletal, endocrine, circulatory, hormonal, metabolic and cardiovascular. Love and affection balances the stress system which, in turn, acts in concert with other bodily systems to maintain health.

In this brilliantly balanced workshop, Dr. Selhub explains the hard science behind the physical benefits of deliberately shifting into a place of love and proactively creating the bonds we need - with others, with ourselves, with the divine. Documenting how the demonstration of that love in the form of affection, self-nurturance, and altruistic works improves health on every level, she also instructs participants in simple practices that allow them to find an inner stillness, enabling the neurobiology of love to bring the body and mind into a state of flow and resilience, the hallmarks of health.
