Paula D'Arcy Paula D’Arcy is an inspired woman whose courage and openness in sharing her story has affected the lives of thousands. She’s been drawn into her life as an author and speaker as a survivor of tragedy and a seeker of life beyond that tragedy. She’d be a writer whether her work was ever published but as things turned out, everything from her journal about her journey through the loss of her young family to her more recent books, are all recordings and revelations from her experiences. It’s that kind of vulnerability that makes Paula a very special speaker. People are mesmerized, touched and often able to make a shift in their thinking about their own losses upon hearing Paula speak. The short story: In 1975 Paula survived a drunk driving accident that took the lives of her husband and twenty-one-month-old daughter, Sarah. Pregnant at the time, Paula gave birth to a second daughter, Beth, months later. Between the lines of those two events, are mountains and valleys of personal and spiritual growth that Paula shares generously with her audiences. Yet you don’t have to have suffered a great loss to learn from Paula. Her message is very much about embracing the present and the power of love. Through a synchronistic chain of events during her grief recovery process, Paula met and was mentored by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. A psychotherapist who ministered to those facing issues of grief and loss, Paula worked with the Peale Foundation, from 1980 until his death in 1993. Today her work includes leading workshops and retreats related to spirituality, aspiring writers, and women’s gatherings, including Women’s Initiation and Rites of Passage. In recent years she has teamed with Richard Rohr to present seminars on the Male/Female Journey and Spirituality in the Two Halves of Life. Paula is the author of eight books and a one-act play called, “On My Way Home.” Some of her titles are “Song for Sarah,” “When People Grieve,” “Gift of the Red Bird,” “Red Fire,” “A New Set of Eyes,” “Seeking with All My Heart,” and “Sacred Threshold.” She is President of the Red Bird Foundation, which supports the growth and spiritual development of those in need and furthers a ministry to those in prison and those living in third world or disadvantaged cultures. In 2007, she sponsored WOMENSPEAK2007, an international gathering of women of all creeds to help effect worldwide change and promote peace.
