Eleanor Pella, RD, MS, LDN Fee Range: $2,500 - $3,500 Speaker's Home Base: PA “Let’s talk food,” – that’s Eleanor Pella’s mantra. Better yet, she adds, “Let’s talk food, fitness and fun, and how they can all work together.” Where there is food, Eleanor brings the topic alive. She has been a registered dietitian for over 25 years. Creating unique food experiences to teach people how to eat healthy while creating optimal health, is her passion. The experience might involve an outburst of singing -- it will always be enthusiastic, and definitely memorable. Eleanor received her Master’s Degree in Nutrition Education from Hood College, Frederick, Maryland, in December 1999, twenty years after obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics from the University of Arkansas in 1979. Her dietetic internship was at the University of Arkansas Medical Science Center in 1980. Eleanor is an adjunct nutrition professor and has taught nutrition courses in Pennsylvania at Penn State, Messiah College, and currently at Harrisburg Area Community College, at the Gettysburg Campus. She has also been the Community Nutritionist Consultant at the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Community Nutritionist at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A huge supporter of plant-based diets, her curiosity and amazement with the small soybean led her to start a vegetarian support group in the Gettysburg community for vegetarians and those curious about meatless diets. Her involvement and interest in plant diets led her to national positions as Treasurer and Chair of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association. Her other love, running, moved her to start the Eat Em Up! 5K run for the Gettysburg Hospital as a fitness and nutrition activity. Participants are encouraged to dress up like their favorite vegetable or fruit! Eleanor likes races that group runners by WEIGHT, not age, since mass directly impacts her speed. Because of programs such as these, Eleanor received the 1999 Innovative National Nutrition Month Educator award from the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association for her creative twist to teaching and applying nutrition in life.
